A 6-Week Qigong Series for Balance, Presence & Vital Life Force

Live at Sequoyah Hall & the Mount Sequoyah Overlook

Fayetteville, AR

Tuesdays: 6:00–7:30 PM

What if, instead of rushing into fall already depleted...

You gave yourself six weeks to reconnect with your body?

The Autumn Equinox: A Time to Find Balance

We begin this series at the Autumn Equinox, one of nature's great moments of balance.

As summer gives way to autumn, the world begins to turn inward. The days grow shorter. The trees begin to release what they no longer need.

Autumn offers us an invitation:

Breathe. Release. Make space.

In Qigong, autumn is associated with the Metal element and the breath. Our practice will explore breathing, balance, letting go, and the cultivation of Guardian Qi, the body's protective energy.

Join us at Mount Sequoyah for six weeks of gentle, flowing movement inspired by the ancient practices of Tai Chi and Qigong in a welcoming and supportive community.

Designed for beginners and rewarding for continuing students.

  • If you've always wanted to learn Tai Chi:

This is a welcoming place to begin. You'll be guided step-by-step, with no previous experience required.

  • If you're looking for a way to stay capable and well as you age:

Tai Chi offers a practice for developing balance, coordination, mobility, and body awareness without high-impact exercise.

  • If you're stressed and need to get out of your head:

The combination of movement, breath, and attention gives you a way to slow down and reconnect with your body.

  • If you've practiced with us before:

This isn't simply another class. It's another step in an ongoing practice. You'll revisit familiar principles while developing new movement skills and deeper internal awareness.

This Series Is For You If You Are Ready To…

  • Return to your center and cultivate a steady foundation for every season of life.

  • Slow down and reconnect with what truly nourishes you.

  • Build calm strength from the inside out.

  • Feel more grounded, balanced, and at home in your body.

  • Create a steady practice that supports your body, mind, and spirit.

  • Move with greater ease while cultivating strength, stability, and presence.

  • Gather yourself after a busy summer and move into autumn feeling strong.

  • Develop a deeper connection to your body through mindful movement and breath.

  • Cultivate resilience by returning to what is steady and true within you.

  • Let go of the rush and discover the strength of moving with intention.

A Gentle Practice.

A Real Practice.

Tai Chi is gentle, but it isn't effortless.

You'll learn a progressive series of movements that develops coordination, balance, relaxed strength, and awareness over time. Movements can be modified, slowed down, and adapted to your individual needs, with opportunities to rest when needed.

Tai Chi doesn't give you balance. It teaches you how to cultivate balance.

It doesn't promise to fix everything in six weeks.

Instead, you'll learn movements, breathing practices, and principles you can take with you long after the series ends.

This Session:
The Wisdom of the Bird

This series will include two beautiful moving Qigong practices:

The White Crane

The White Crane is one of the Five Animal practices. Through its graceful, expansive movements, we'll explore breath, balance, lightness, and spaciousness in the body.

The Soaring Dragon

We'll also continue our exploration of The Soaring Dragon, the third Dragon Dao Yin form.

Through flowing, whole-body movement, we'll work with coordination, balance, spinal mobility, breath, and relaxed strength.

The form gives returning students a place to deepen their practice, while new students will be introduced to the movements progressively.

A Setting That Supports Your Practice

We gather in Mount Sequoyah Hall a warm, light-filled space with beautiful wooden floors and tall windows that welcome the golden hues of evening light.

When weather allows and the group feels called, we will practice outdoors on the grass or at the Mount Sequoyah overlook, letting the fresh air and open sky deepen our breath and expand our perspective

Location & Setting

There is something quietly meaningful about teaching here. This place holds a personal vision I’ve carried for years. My son’s name is Sequoyah, and for as long as I’ve practiced Qigong and Tai Chi in Fayetteville, I’ve dreamed of offering this work in this space.

Now that dream is a reality!

"Practicing qigong with Maria Chowdhury is a nourishing and empowering experience. As a queer and trans person, it's especially affirming to find spaces where all parts of my lived experience are warmly welcomed—and Maria creates that kind of space with deep intention and care. Her teaching honors each person's inherent power and dignity with genuine reverence, creating a sense of belonging that is both grounding and expansive."

-Sam Ash

Group Facilitator

"I was excited and worried about taking this class because I'm out of shape and have pain. Maria is such an excellent teacher! She has brought me through each class with supportive reminders, physically and spiritually, so that this has ended up being a wonderful experience, both physically and mentally.

Taking this class helped me really see and accept my body with its current limitations. Then helped me see the possibilities and what I am ABLE to do with my body! This class took me on a physical and heartfelt/spiritual journey.

I would recommend this class to many different people because you can modify the practice and still be with the group.

"It hasn't just been the physical and energy-moving aspects of qigong that have transformed me in your course. It has been the way you lead students from this rigid world we've been indoctrinated to believe is all there is -- to other realms, if we choose to follow, territories where our vastness is invited to unfurl itself and our capacity for transforming ourselves and supporting the healing of others is cultivated.
